Japanese forces bombarded the US Navy base in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, on 7 December 1941. The attack caused 188 US aircraft to be badly damaged and 2,403 people from the US camp lost their lives. This event became one of the world's most memorable historical records.

In addition to the bombing at Pearl Harbor, there were several events that took place on December 7.

574 - Justin II resigned as Byzantine Emperor. He then handed over the throne to the military general of the Byzantine Empire, Tiberius. After Tiberius took the throne, the Byzantine Empire made peace with the Visigoths in Spain and defeated the Berbers in North Africa. However, the war against Persia, which had been ongoing since the reign of Justin II, continued.

1917 - The United States officially declared war on Austria-Hungary. This followed the involvement of the US in World War I, which had also just joined the Allies. In World War I, which lasted for more than four years, the US was only involved for a year, from 1917 to 1918.

1941 - Japanese forces bombarded the US Navy base in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. The attack caused 188 US aircraft to be badly damaged and 2,403 people from the US camp lost their lives. In addition, 1,178 people from the US camp were injured.

On the Japanese side, no less than 29 aircraft were destroyed after being used for suicide attacks, five submarines were damaged and 65 soldiers were killed. The attack led to the US declaring war on Japan, Germany and Italy. With this declaration, the US became involved in World War II and joined the Allies.

1946 - A huge fire broke out at the Winecoff Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, United States (US). A total of 119 people died in the fire. It was the deadliest fire in the history of hospitality in the US.

1949 - The Republic of China officially moves its center of government from Nanjing to Taipei on the island of Taiwan after being increasingly pushed back by attacks by communist forces in the Chinese Civil War.

A few months after the Republic of China's government was transferred, communist forces won the war and took power in Mainland China, establishing the People's Republic of China. Although the war stopped, there has been no ceasefire or peace treaty between the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China to date.

1959 - The Indonesian government officially established Aceh as a special region. At that time, the special status was given to Aceh in accordance with the Decree of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Indonesia No. 1/Missi/1959, the contents of which included religion, worship, and education.

1975 - Indonesian troops invaded Timor-Leste after the country declared its independence from Portugal. The invasion, called Operation Seroja, aimed to annex Timor-Leste into Indonesian territory.

Operation Seroja lasted more than eight months and ended with Indonesia successfully annexing the territory of East Timor and making it a province under the name East Timor. East Timor became independent on 19 October 1999.
